From Community Member to Digital Transformation Driver: Guillermo’s LatinOz Journey

Some journeys aren’t just measured in kilometres—they’re measured in heart, growth, and the quiet, powerful impact one person can have on a community.

Guillermo Ramallo’s story is one of those journeys.

Originally from Córdoba, Argentina, Guillermo grew up surrounded by the vivid landscapes, traditions, and warmth that define the region. Córdoba isn’t just a place—it’s a feeling. A mix of rugged sierras, mate shared under the sun, family Sunday asados, and a deep-rooted pride in culture and community. That sense of identity, of belonging, never left him.

But like many, Guillermo’s professional journey took him far from home. He spent over a decade in New Zealand, working in high-level tech roles across the corporate world and becoming a recognised expert in cloud architecture and IT consulting.

Eventually, with his family by his side, he made a new move—this time to Brisbane, Australia. It was during the COVID-19 pandemic, a time when building new relationships was especially challenging, and even a simple “hello” felt distant.

But amidst the uncertainty, Guillermo found something unexpected: Lazos Latinoz.

A Place to Reconnect, a Program That Felt Like Home

Lazos Latinoz isn’t just a program, it's a space where Latin American families can celebrate their heritage, help their children grow up bilingual and bicultural, and create a sense of home far from home. For Guillermo and his family, it was exactly what they needed.

“After so many years living abroad, it was important to me that my children didn’t just speak Spanish—but understood where they come from. Lazos Latinoz offered that bridge, not only for them, but for me too.” – Guillermo Ramallo

Through Lazos, Guillermo rediscovered something personal. It wasn’t just about staying connected to culture, it was about being part of a collective story. He saw the love and labour poured into the program, the dedicated volunteers, and the power of community action. And he felt called to give back.

From Participant to Powerhouse: Guillermo Joins the LatinOz QLD Committee

In May 2024, Guillermo officially joined the committee of LatinOz Queensland. But even before that, he was already helping, offering tech advice, fixing bugs, recommending tools, and supporting the team behind the scenes.

Once on board, he became a driving force behind our digital transformation journey. Drawing on over two decades of global IT experience—from Argentina to Aotearoa to Australia—Guillermo brought clarity, vision, and strategy to a non-profit that was growing fast and needed structure to scale.

What Guillermo’s Story Tells Us About Migration and Community

Migration is often told as a story of loss and adaptation. But it can also be a story of contribution, of legacy-building, of strengthening the places we land in.

Guillermo didn’t just move to Australia—he moved into community, and he brought others with him.

Through his volunteer work, he’s not only helped LatinOz QLD operate more efficiently—he’s also empowered us to dream bigger. To reach more families. To preserve culture in digital spaces. To thrive, not just survive.

His story reminds us that behind every well-run system, every improved process, every seamless signup, there’s someone who believed in the mission enough to do the quiet work. And that belief, that commitment, is what keeps our community strong.

Gracias, Guillermo 💙
